Why I named my blog “Stay Gold, Ponyboy”

Those who know me know it’s because I love love love the book and the movie The Outsiders. And not just because of Rob Lowe. Because a teenager wrote that book. And because I could relate to it.

Nothing Gold Can Stay

Nature’s first green is gold,
Her hardest hue to hold.
Her early leaf’s a flower;
But only so an hour.
Then leaf subsides to leaf,
So Eden sank to grief,
So dawn goes down to day
Nothing gold can stay.

Robert Frost

I’ve remembered that poem since the first time I saw the movie and then read the book. When I decided to start this blog, it occurred to me that we who care about content have the power and the opportunities to prove Robert Frost wrong. Our websites often start planned and pristine, yet gradually, they become overgrown, unfocused, and quite frankly useless. A content strategist’s job is to help websites stay gold.
